Lot 235.1

Geneva, 21 x 32 mm, 16 g, circa 1810
A lady’s remarkable, bejewelled pendant watch in the shape of an escutcheon, ornamented with fine diamonds and a visible balance also decorated with diamonds; made from gold and silver, with exquisite enamel painting. With original red morocco leather box and original, diamond-studded key
Case: gold, silver, enamel, old-cut diamonds. Dial: peripheral white enamel dial with Arabic numerals. Window revealing the diamond-set balance against a blued steel back in the upper part of the dial. Movm.: escutcheon-shaped movement, frosted, keywind.
This is a very early example of a prestigious watch in an extravagant form. The edges are set on both sides with shimmering old-cut diamonds, so are the bow and the balance. The diamonds show hardly any inclusions. The back is decorated with an oval, gold-framed enamel medallion: transclucent cobalt blue enamel painted with a glorious bouquet of flowers in bright colours. The case band is engraved and shows a duck hunter and two hounds going after a wild boar.
