L. W. Carl Bäumer & Co., Essen, Rheinland, Height 1860 mm, circa 1893
A Glashuette seconds precision regulator with regulator dial
Case: walnut, glazed front door and sides, supplemented base . Dial: silvered. Movm.: rectangular-shaped brass movement, Graham escapement with adjustable steel pallets with inlaid sapphires, Tiede/Grossmann zinc/steel-compensation pendulum, adjustable and lateral pendulum drive device, pendulum spring suspension.
The name Bäumer & Co. in Essen on the dial refers to the recipient of the watch. L. W. Carl is listed in the address book of watch- and clockmakers issued by the German horological association as owner of the company Bäumer & Co. at Limbäcker Strasse 105 in Essen. Movement and pendulum indicate that the timepiece was made in Glashütte; the signature of the casemaker "Arthur Guricke Glashütte Sachsen" on the back and inside supports this notion further – Guricke worked in Glashütte as a cabinet maker and is known to have produced many of the base frames for the demonstration movements created at the school. This unsigned movement with chatons on all bearings is most likely an early piece made by the company Strasser & Rohde in Saxony.
