Gebrüder Hahn Hoffmechanici à Stuttgardt, Movement No. 215, Case No. "H 47", 57 mm, 102 g, circa 1790
A gentleman's important astronomical German pocket watch - until now an undocumented piece from the workshop of Hahn Case: transport case - brass. Inner case - rose gold, polished, tiered, large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, two outer scales: month indication in French with red signs of the zodiac in combination with the numbers of the days of the month, indication for centre seconds in black Arabic numerals. Five auxiliary dials: hours, date, planetary days, the moon phases in combination with the time from moonrise to moonset; the last is divided into red and black quarters of the night and minutes, blued seconds pointer and gilt hands. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, signed, seconds stop device, conical movement pillars, open barrel, florally pierced and engraved balance bridge with regulator scale, large five-arm brass balance, horizontal cylinder escapement, facetted garnet endstone on balance.
Gebrüder Hahn Hoffmechanici à Stuttgardt: The brothers Hahn, Christian Gottfried (* 1769) and Christoph Matthäus (1767-1833), worked in the workshop of their father Philipp Matthäus Hahn of Onstmettingen, Kornwestheim, and Echterdingen. Christian Gottfried and Christoph Matthäus went on to become "Hofmechanikus" (court mechanicians) in Stuttgart. Christian Gottfried was later recorded in Berlin and in America.
