Abeler Jewellers, Wuppertal, Height 370 mm, circa 1980
A unique ostrich egg clock studded with sapphires and digital time "Pendule à Circles de Tournant", singing bird automaton. Special design for the in-house museum in Wuppertal.
Silver, enamel, sapphires and ostrich egg. Triangular base with sapphire petals, engine-turned walls and two-colour translucent blue enamel. A serpent covered in sapphires is coiled around the cobalt blue enamelled throat of the clock and shows the hours. The upper part of the egg has a rotating dial ring with sapphire-studded Roman numerals. The top is fitted with a round half pearl-studded plaque that hides the rotating singing bird; the bird opens its beak, flaps its wings and wags its tail. Sapphire-studded acanthus decoration on the very top. On each side a handle with chased ornamentation. Winding arbor and slide to activate the automaton are on the side of the base.
