Salvatore Micallef à Malte, Case No. 572, 45 mm, 79 g, circa 1790
A gentleman's important automatic pocket watch with an early oscillating weight winding movement and cylinder escapement
Case: 22k pink gold, polished, engraved case band, case maker's punch mark "LMJ", large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, radial Roman numerals, sun hands Movm.: full plate movement, early oscillating weight winding movement according to Moijse Gevril Fils Le Locle, firegilt, signed, large barrel, conical pillars, three-arm balance.
The records show that Salvatore Micallef was a clockmaker in Malta in the 18th century. The watch, however, was produced in Switzerland and sold under the name Micallef & Giglio after having been imported onto the island.
