A fine, single-handed "Oignon" verge pocket watch with alarm
Case: silver, engraved and chased décor, florally engraved bezel, the back side with open work border, decorated with foliage and mythological birds, central cartouche with instruments of war, rear bell, large lateral hinge. Dial: silver, Champlevé, inlaid radial Roman hours, central alarm disc with Arabic numerals, arrow-shaped single hand. Movm.: fine full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, engraved barrel for alam, Egyptian movement pillars, 1 hammer, three-arm iron balance, large engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.
Charles Voisin (1685-1761)
Charles Voisin, who was born in Paris in 1685, became a master clockmaker in 1710. After working at the Rue de Sevres for some time he moved to the Rue Dauphine in 1713. Voisin was married twice; he was the father of nine children and two of them became master clockmakers too. Charles Voisin handed his business over to his second son Antoine Henry in 1760 and died in Paris early in 1761.
