Lot No. 592
Estimate  8,000 - 12,000 €
This is a lot of a former auction!

Presumably St. Croix, 43 mm, 65 g

, circa 1825

A gentleman's extraordinary and small quarter repeating pocket watch with double wheel duplex escapement, quarter hour self strike and musical movement

Case: 18k rose gold, engine-turned, engine-turned band, slide for repetition and for activating the musical movement, case maker's punch mark "IC". Dial: gold, engine-turned, applied round cartouches with inlaid radial Roman numerals, lozenge pink gold hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, 2 going barrels, sur plateau musical movement with pinned disc and two combs with eight and nine vibrating blades, three-arm mirror polished steel balance.

This extraordinary piece combines a musical movement with a hammer strike; on release a short tune is played that is immediately followed by the quarter strike with two hammers. It is also unusual that such a watch was fitted with what was at the time a novel escapement known for its precision.
Case: very good
Dial: very good, dents, slightly oxydized
Movm.: very good, capable of running
