A gentleman's decorative, finely hand-engraved Schaffhausen pocket watch - presented by the Halberger Hütte Rudolf Böcking & Co. Erben Stumm-Halberg und Rud. Böcking-GmbH: "In dankbarer Anerkennung für langjährige treue Dienste" ("In greatful appreciation of loyal service")
Case: silver, back with engraving of the Halberger Hütte, silver dome with dedication inscription: "dem Meister Jakob Mohr 1911, in dankbarer Anerkennung für langjährige treue Dienste" ("to master Jakob Mohr 1911 in greatful appreciation of loyal service"). Dial: enamel, Arabic "Empire" numerals, auxiliary seconds, gold Louis XVI hands. Movm.: 3/4 plate movement, frosted, gilt, signed, screwed chatons, Patent no. 31457, screw compensation balance.
The Stumms were one of the most important entrepreneurial families in the European Coal and Steel Community in the South West of Germany; their main representative was Carl Ferdinand von Stumm-Halberg. Over five generations the family established or operated more than 20 hammer mills and ironworks during proto-industrialisation in the 18th century and in the course of industrialisation in the 19th century.
