, Case No. 496566, 50 mm, 104 g, circa 1850An extremely rare phonotelemeter with two dials, comprising five seconds chronograph, ten minutes register, sound telemeter, kilometer gauge and compass - a device consisting essentially of a stopwatch, for estimating the distance of guns in action by measuring the interval between the flash and the arrival of the sound waves from the discharge.
Case: silver. Dial: enamel, signed 'Hommage du Captain Chouvenin (Inventeur) à Mr. Le Général de Division - Directeur de L'Artillerie'. Movm.: 1/2 plate movement, screw compensation balance.
