A gentleman's as new military-type diving wristwatch with auxiliary seconds, date window, seconds reset device and 8 days power reserve indicator on the back - limited edition no. O405 of 500 pieces - with original box, operating instructions and certificate
Case: titanium, glazed screw back, screwed winding crown, leather strap and buckle. Dial: tobacco black "sandwich" dial. Movm.: bridge movement,Glucydur balance.
The pillow-shaped case is made from satin-finished titanium and has removable loop strap attachments. The tobacco black sandwich dial has Arabic numerals and indexes as well as gold hands, all with luminous material. The Panerai manual wind calibre P2002/9 has three barrels and an 8-day power reserve. It is also fitted with a device for the rapid adjustment of the time without interfering with the movement of the minute hand.
The design of the Radiomir is based on that of the first Panerai watch produced for the royal Italian navy in 1938. The screw-down winding crown and back gave the watch an increased water resistance and the dial was easily to read even in difficult conditions, because the hands and indexes were coated with a luminous material containing zinc sulfate, mesothorium and radium bromide – the names of these materials were abbreviated to coin the new name: Radiomir.
Much to the surprise of those who had regarded the watch as kind of exotic, the Radiomir has become another highly popular collector’s piece.
