Vaucher à Fleurier, 56 mm, 98 g, circa 1830
A striking ornamental Geneva gold enamel pocket watch with jumping centre seconds in a lavishly ornamented enamel case with flower decoration - produced for the Chinese market
Case: 18k gold, polychrome enamel, glazed movement. Dial: enamel. Movm.: mirror-polished steel bridge movement, Lepine calibre, keywind, standing barrel, steel train, cylinder escapement, three-arm steel balance.
The back side is decorated with a polychrome enamel bouquet of flowers on a black ground made by using two different enamel techniques, champlevé and painted enamel, imitating Chinese cloisonné enamel.
Vaucher Frères à Fleurier company was founded by Alfred Vaucher at Fleurier. After his death in 1840 the sons Alfred, Edouard and James-Henri continued the business and specialized on dealing in Chinese clocks and watches. In 1843 they opened a branch in Kanton and later another one in Shanghai.
