Hans Troschel the Younger was the son of Hans Troschel the Elder and learned the making of ivory sundials and compasses from his father, before training in the art of engraving with Peter Isselburg (1580-1630); he created etchings portraying citizens of Nuremberg and illustrated a booklet with advice for young travellers that was inspired by designs of French illustrator and cartoonist Jacques Callot. In 1620 he lived in Ledergasse in Nuremberg; in 1624 Troschel moved to Rome and liver there until his death on May 19, 1628.
