A quarter hour repeating carriage clock of high quality with quarter hour / hour strike "Grande and Petite Sonnerie" and alarm - sold on December 24, 1884 to Madame L. Goldschmidt for 1,200 Francs - with Breguet extract from the archives no. 4501

Case: bronze, gilt, moulded, facet glazed on three sides, glazed upper part, lavishly decorated handle, lever for choosing between Grande or Petite Sonnerie and Silence. Dial: enamel, gilt mask. Movm.: rectangular brass full plate movement "première qualité", punch mark "AM" (François Arsène Margaine, Rue Beranger 22 und Rue Bondy 54, Paris), 3 hammers / 2 gongs, additional enamel alarm disc with radial Arabic numerals, 3 barrels for going train, hour strike and alarm, platform with lever escapement, lever with ruby paletts, gold screw compensation balance.

Francois Arsène Margaine was a well-known maker of travel clock with several branches in Paris.
Margaine won a silver medal during the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889 and a gold medal in 1900. Together with Paul Garnier Francois Arsène he is considered one of the best makers of travel clocks and Belle Epoque-style "pendule d'officiers" in Paris. Pawel Buhré in Russia sold travel clocks made by Margaine under his own name; the brand logo was a beehive with the initials AM.
