A pre-balance spring Renaissance pendant watch with one hand
Case: brass, remains of fire gilding. Dial: silver, engraved, polychrome Cloisonnée enamel inlays. Movm.: brass full plate movement, gilt, barrel, stackfreed, verge escapement, foliot and hog's bristle, two-arm steel balance without balance spring.
The front of this oval pendant watch has 12 windows for reading the Roman hours I-XII and the Arabic hours 13-24 on the dial, which are inlaid in black enamel. The silver dial is elaborately decorated with polychrome Cloisonnée enamel: a central vase filled with flowers and a multicoloured parrot flying in the air. The watch also features raised hour dots for reading the time at night. Inside the front cover there are remains of an engraved scale for a sundial and the openings for the attachment of a compass.
