Omega "Chronometre de Bord", Movement No. 12780819, Cal. 47,7 NN L, 65 x 65 mm, 251 g, circa 1951
A very rare chronometer movement in a square aluminium inspection case, fitted with world record-holding precision calibre 47,7 NN L – this is one of 30 copies of the so-called version "Bord-Chronometer", which were only finalized in 1951
Case: nickel, glazed on both sides. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, Guillaume gold screw compensation balance.
Calibre 47.7 mm set world records for precision timekeeping in all categories at Kew-Teddington in 1933 as well as 1936. It is likely that these movements were produced in 1919/1920 in a series of 330 examples, of which approximately 30 were finished by 1951. Today only 13 of those are recorded with designated movement numbers. They are listed and described on page 172 of Marco Richon’s book "Omega", Bienne 2007.
