Fallery, London, 37 x 57 mm, 88 g, circa 1640/1740
A rare oval puritan single hand pendant watch
Case: brass, polished. Dial: brass, engraved, brass hand. Movm.: full plate movement, applied floral decorations, chain/fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.
Because of its simple appearance that is supposed to be in character with Puritan austerity, this watch is an excellent example of the so-called "Puritan" watch style of 17th century England. The movement was manufactured in an oval shape for the existing case as part of a later modernization; according to Brian Loomes’ records, Fallery lived in London around 1740.
