Lot 409

Patek Philippe Genève, Movement No. 771596, Ref. 3941, Cal. Cal. 240Q aut., 36 mm, circa 1989
An extremely rare automatic Geneva wristwatch with perpetual calendar, 24h indicator, leap year indicator and moon phase, sold on July 21st, 1989 - with leather wallet, brochures, and original certificate
Case: 18k gold, glazed push back, 18k gold PPC buckle. Dial: silvered.
With the launch of references 3940 and 3941 in 1985, Patek Philippe introduced their new perpetual calendar. The two references differ in the design of the case back: reference 3940 is fitted with a solid back, while its sister 3941 features a sapphire crystal back. When both variations proved highly successful and in demand, Patek Philippe eventually produced the model with both case options available. In 1990, production of reference 3941 was finally discontinued, because the two models were by now identical. As a result, only very few examples of reference 3941 are known to exist.
This timepiece has sunken subsidiary dials and is part of the earlier series. It is in remarkable condition and provides the chance to own not only an extremely rare reference but also one of the very early, modern Patek Philippe perpetual calendars.
