Panerai "Radiomir 8 Days", Movement No. 022914, Case No. OP6840, Individual No. BB1444029, Millesimation No. O047/500, Ref. PAM00384, Cal. P2002/3, 45 x 47 mm, circa 2012
A military-type diving wristwatch in mint condition, with auxiliary seconds, date window and 8 days power reserve indicator - limited edition no. 47 of 500 pieces - with original box
Case: ceramic, glazed titanium screw back, screwed "OP" winding crown, titanium buckle. Dial: black, "sandwich" type.
The pillow-shaped case is made from ceramic and has removable loop strap attachments. The black sandwich dial has Arabic numerals, indexes and hands filled with luminous material. The Panerai manual wind calibre P2002/3 has three barrels and an 8-day power reserve.
The design of the Radiomir is based on that of the first Panerai watch produced for the royal Italian navy in 1938. The screw-down winding crown and back gave the watch an increased water resistance and the dial was easily to read even in difficult conditions, because the hands and indexes were coated with a luminous material containing zinc sulfate, mesothorium and radium bromide – the names of these materials were abbreviated to coin the new name: Radiomir.
Much to the surprise of those who had regarded the watch as kind of exotic, the Radiomir has become another highly popular collector's piece.
